Thank you for the interesting and considered reporting about the Golders Green attacks.

I saw the footage of the arrest in GG & believe Polanski was right to call out the brutality of the police. The attacker was being held face down on the ground, unable to move while 2 policemen were giving him violent & unnecessary kicks, one I think in the head. The man is totally unhinged - now even more so. The Met needs to get it's act together, not only in an incident like this

He was still holding a knife and had just stabbed two people.

If Polanski is really concerned about receiving anti-Semitic abuse (which I don’t believe he is), he should stop contributing to its spread. In the last week alone he (a) said that there was a feeling of unsafety among the Jewish community but it wasn’t clear if this was real or merely a perception (this after three arson attacks on synagogues and other Jewish properties in the last few days), and (b) responded to the stabbings by posting a tweet concerned that the attacker had been arrested too roughly.

He is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

Your final sentence outlines the poor strength of your argument, to be honest.

I don't buy this argument: "One side-effect of this is it means parties end up fighting ultra-local elections on national issues – whether that’s Gaza, the economy, or immigration. It also means deep-pocketed parties can target national messages on an ultra-local level without busting spending limits."

Independents are running on Gaza platforms and don't have a national campaign to back them. Also Greens will use Gaza as one of their arguments when door knocking.

Many in the Greens support the US-influenced ‘defund the police’ movement, so it’s any opportunity to have a dig.

It’s unclear from the video whether the officer was trying to kick the weapon away or kicking the suspect.

Was he holding the knife with his head and that's why they were repeatedly kicking his head and stamping on his head?

lwright's avatar

How would you have got the knife out of his hand?

Honestly no idea how I'd have behaved in that situation, to be fair. No doubt there will be an investigation. The main thing was that they stopped the violence.
